plain as his unadorned guise.
I barely even took note.
But he returned when
trouble arose, unquestioningly there to tote
me into his harboring arms, unaware of my lies.
He let me into his world then, and I watched him candidly.
He grew at that moment in my eyes,
not an aristocrat who gloats,
a man of men.
I fell in love in this remote
paradise, and later when in a disguise
he tried to win me over with his pomp and money.
My "Ababua" and I took to the skies
on a magic carpet we'd float
and it was heaven.
Though a knife to his throat,
my "Ababua" Sabir saved me from a man I despise.
To win Hafsa, the sultan's daughter, true love is the key.
Author notes
ALADDIN or THE ARABIAN NIGHTS
Going with Aladdin though, since it's kind of based on Jasmine's side of the Disney version. One of my all-time favorites, I just love the flying carpet and seeing through disguise and the princess marrying the commoner stuff. I know it wasn't very "glittery" but It was the bare-bones story, the truth, the emotion. Congratulations Sabir and Hafsa!
Does it convey the emotion well enough?
