Simba the Kitten

Missing image
Simba the kitten was a sprightly little cat
She played and played for hours in my grandma’s old blue hat
She ran and jumped at shadows and she rolled upon the floor
She sparred there in the mirror with the cat upon the door

She thought she was a tiger as she crept around the house
Her wide blue eyes were searching for a cunning little mouse
Together they played daily and when the day was through
Together they would curl right up and sleep the hours through

Simba liked to watch me when I showered every day
She’d swat the water droplets then she’d turn and run away
She’d hide among the bushes and she’d watch the birds in flight
And when they swooped upon her she would run away in fright

She’d run right down the passage and skid into the wall
She’d stand right up and shake herself and pounce upon her ball
At night when we were sleeping she’d sneak into our room
And jump upon the bed where she’d sit and have a groom

Now Simba’s almost nineteen – yes, she’s in her aging years
Her eyes are almost blinded and she weeps a constant tear
I know that when she’s sleeping she dreams of days gone by
Of days of youthful wonder when nothing made her cry

And as I watch her dreaming I shed a tear or two
I know that one day very soon her life will be all through
But till that time is on us we will love her every day
And think about the life she had when she was young at play

When Simba’s days are over – she will sleep a peaceful sleep
And when I lay there dreaming – into my dreams she’ll creep
Dear Simba how I love you – what a friend you’ve been to me
Now sleep my friend – sleep my friend – now the spirits set you free

No lover of cats does not stop me from enjoying a very fine poem concerning yours/ I can well understand your feelings on your pet As i had the same with my little dog
It is hard to understand just how attached to them one becomes, and the empty feeling when they're gone
    A most enjoyable read
    Excellent

    What a gorgeous picture -

a long entry, but held my attention all the way through, it was such an epic tale of her life -

seems to me that you must have surely caught all sides of Simba, and what a way you told her life story - truly made her proud ...

i'm sorry for the loss, it sounds like you two had some amazing times together - thank you though for sharing this with us

Moving and well written. It LOOKS as if it might be a little uneven when in fact, it reads quite smoothly. I had to take a couple of deep breaths to keep from tearing up. VERY good job!

    beautiful

You tell of you cat Simba, so well in your poem. It almost makes me cry, because I had my Kiki for 18 yrs, and he passed away last April.

Your rhyming is excellent, and congratulations on the Bronze!

    Masterful!
I think the "Simba" rhymed beautifully. A rose by any other name, etc!
    Great stuff!

Thank you, Princess.I am glad you liked this one. I wrote this a long time ago for my darling Lowannah. She was so precious to me, and so very very gentle in nature. I couldn't get her name to rhyme with anything, so Simba substituted.

You certainly love your cat. Me too. Poetically I love it all. the bouncy rhythm to go with a playful kitten, the rhyme scheme to go with the rhythm and the wonderful story you have told.

Thanks, Bob. This one was written about my cat, Lowannah, but it was hard to get rhyme for her name, so Simba it was.
