to our picnic you would bring
cucumber sandwiches
the crusts cut off, the vegetable thin,
the cream cheese spread just right
some looked at you askance
and whispered behind chewed-nailed hands
"how strange"
"not odd at all, dear fellows!"
the rabbit would declare
and produce from his waistcoat
with a magician's flair
a watch
before bounding away
to our picnic i would bring
a large flask of tea
and two cups for you and me
strong and black but sugared sweet
just for you and me
and the others stared at us
and didn't whisper as they exclaimed
"how strange"
"not odd at all, dear gentlemen"
a little maiden spoke
and tucked into her apron pocket
with grace
a mushroom small
then vanished before our eyes
to our picnic we would bring
whatever we desired
we did not care then, you or i,
what those others thought
for all they thought was "strange"
instead we listened to our hearts
and those visitors
who stated, plain as plain,
we were "not odd at all"
Author notes
I know a girl who does take cucumber sandwiches to picnics, but we all love her for it.
No apologies for the Alice in Wonderland references.
I don't really know what this is about, so don't ask me, please.

Excellent
I feel this could be about many things...among which could be a clear understanding of other human beings and what their hearts contain. We don't need to pay heed to what others think, because they are all 'strange' in many ways! Congrats and best regards
