It’s the night of the show,
Zach is constantly straightening his bow.
Seven o’clock seems ages away,
But this is it, today’s the day.
Becca is checking herself in the mirror,
And Kaiker is making it so we all can hear.
Jenny is searching for a safety pin,
And sound check is in just one minute.
Polina’s hair is filled with polka-bows,
And Emily is trying to pull up her hoes.
Zach C. has grown a mustache in three seconds flat,
And Tessa’s in her uniform, next up to bat.
She swears the clock has stopped,
And Nathalie is so nervous she’s ready to drop.
Feather are falling from Cashelle’s dress.
The dressing room and hallway are a mess!
iPod’s are breaking out here and there,
While Caylin’s relaxing in the big gray chair.
David’s face has turned green,
Mitchell’s costume and glare is oh so mean.
Christine is yelling to be quiet,
But no one seems to mind it.
Cayden’s grown a tail and some ear to go with,
Some say we’re sold out but I think it’s a myth.
Six-thirty is here,
And the parents leave, faces full of cheer.
They start their Green Room meditations,
And are told there can be no complications.
Seven is coming slowly but surely,
Christine’s checking if her hair is still curly.
They are not supposed to talk,
So some are writing messages in chalk.
Everyone gets in their positions.
Ready in the pit at the musicians.
This is it, the music starts to play.
She starts the show, nothing is in her way.
She hears her cue, her heart starts to pump.
Mrs. A is whispering that backstage is a dump.
Karen’s on stage, in mid-freeze.
She open the curtain, praying “Don’t let me mess up please!”
Here is it, the end of the show.
Her last part and She’d do it in snow.
Curtain call comes, she steps out for one moment,
She hunchs over, all low and bent.
They all know they couldn’t have done it
Without Smitty’s quick wit.
But she thinks she did the best job, if she may say.
They did our best and they did it their way.
Author notes
I wrote this when I was in 8th grade for me and my friends, so it's not my best but not my worst either.
