I am a Poet

My pen cannot skate
across a rink of pristine white
and carve into it a world
of which you have only dreamt
in your sweetest deepest sleep
where all that exists is tender silence

You will see no virgin wilderness
no lordly stag staring alertly
into black shadows
as he guards his timid doe
delicately huffing at a shimmering stream
that slithers through a sparkling starfield
like ink trickling over shining marble

there will be no snow-capped giant
towering over bristling
indignant pines
stretching to touch its rounded peak
that proudly stabs
the churning grey heavens

I am a poet

My pen dances
tracing a path to be followed
by restless eyes
it steps and leaps and whirls
until your mind
dances in its wake

Author notes

I haven't added anything in a REALLY LONG TIME and i thought i probably ought to. I haven't written poetry in an even longer time, so I was pretty pleased at how easily it all came back. Constructive comments always welcome!

    Very nice work for someone who hasn't written in a while -- maybe it's like riding a bike? I think your descriptions are just amazing, and the words move very smoothly, with a great ending. Very well done!
