Liberty and Justice for Some

In the land of the free
marijuana should be legal
but we can't smoke weed
to be happy and peaceful.

Instead we get drunk
get in fights and go drive
take cigarettes to the lungs
get cancer and die.

These problems we ignore
are getting worse everyday
while people with the cure
are getting locked away.

Government is crooked.
Justice is corrupt.
Too many people are stupid
enough to give liberty up.

Was this nation built on lies?
Will we crumble under laws?
Or will we open our freaking eyes
and fix our freedom's flaws?

    GREAT WORK!

Kind of sad the direction our country is taking. You asked some thoughtful questions at the end of this. I admire the courage of you speaking the truth. THANKS!

I don't understand the conversation of smoking pot vs. smoking regular cigarettes, you're still essentially putting harmful toxins in your body. Plus the affect of THC is much like being drunk, and the high number of people being irresponsible while being on the drugs why it's illegal. People driving and smoking cigarettes really aren't going to hurt anyone...but someone smoking pot and driving is a dangerous combo.

  • I LOVE THIS POEM!
It does not only apply to America - which is clearly implicit and because I checked your profile but I like how it applies to all countries and nations.
Though I don't like the idea of "Marijauna" being legal, I like how the poem progresses.

    I loved this stanza:
    "Government is crookid.
    Justice is corrupt.
    Too many people stupid
    enough to give liberty up."

Just a couple of comments in the same stanza though. It should be "crooked" (same pronounciation) and "Too many people "are" stupid" (You need to have a verb).

Excellent Job and Keep on writing,
    Nooni

Line 13 has a typo: crooked.

Apart from that you have hit the nail on the head in so far as your American legend of "the land of the free" is just a hypocritical myth.

I'm sorry that was an intentional typo to put emphasis on that which is cooked is messed up and just not right.

  • AWESOME. I really love this and completely agree. Though I actually try to give cops the benifit of the doubt, they are, after all, just following the rules. Which isn't to say that there aren't crooked cops out there, cause there are a lot of them. I just think they should be given a little more credit.

Anyway, this is a fabulous poem. Really nicely done. If you have anymore weed poems, please send them my way.

Thank you for the wonderful comments, also thank you for
pointing out the part about cops, I agree it's not all their fault...
I think changing that could make this a lot better

  • You see a lot of whats going wrong, shame the politicians arent so observant, good rant.

  • Made your point

Good job, you made your point, I see what you want to be done with the laws and stuff and what you want legalized well cool good job haha

    huh.
I understand some of your points.
But I'm not sure I'm ready to agree with you completely.
I mean what makes the effects of marijuanna better than smoking or drinking?

Marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. By comparison, marijuana is nontoxic and cannot cause death by overdose. According to the prestigious European medical journal, The Lancet, "The smoking of cannabis, even long-term, is not harmful to health. ... It would be reasonable to judge cannabis as less of a threat ... than alcohol or tobacco." - norml.com

My son talks about this stuff all the time. It really concerns him a lot. Me too actually. I really don't understand it. Drinking should be illegal more than marijuanna...but remember prohibition? In some countries you would be put to death for being caught with marijuanna. In Sweden or one of those countries you can buy it at the corner store! Crazy world we live in.
