...and they called her Cotton Candy,
for her days had seemed so sweet,
such a blessed child,
that grew into an enchanting woman,
platted skirts swinging in the wind
...and they called him lucky Joe
for Joseph's far too formal,
for a boy who loves his leather hard
and his women even harder
such a chance meeting
that smeltering night
when their lives collide
and everything goes right
crickets chirp against the pine
he held her gaze (her hands)
her heart in time,
those pulsing beats
that so defined
their perfect moments
unaligned
he was her man
(against the grain)
bucked the strain
took all the pain
for his girl
so sweet as candy
on a soft summer night
with a moonlit dip
that cements them in time
looking back at '59
