The dogs of war are still on the loose
All the world has lost their chains
And in the so called battles
Innocents are killed and maimed..
We all stay, quite safe at home,
Watch the slaughter on Tee Vee
Winge and bitch 'bout little things
Like dead leaves from neighbors tree.
Munitions bosses sit and count
Their quickly mounting stash
Of misbegotten profits because
Their God is strictly cash.
In my long and troubled lifetime
Not once have I really seen
Where the ever present wars
Had a time of peace between.
There must be a way to stop
This cruel maiming of our kids
Why can't we sit and wait it out
India's Mahatma Ghandi did.
Is our only God the dollar
Not like it was before
and when asked about the killing
Do we simply say: What war?
All the world has lost their chains
And in the so called battles
Innocents are killed and maimed..
We all stay, quite safe at home,
Watch the slaughter on Tee Vee
Winge and bitch 'bout little things
Like dead leaves from neighbors tree.

Author notes
There has been a war of some sort for the whole of my life, from the Great Depression of the 30's to the depression of now. And our leaders talk all the time of progress. What progress?
Quicker and more lethal ways to kill more innocents, or the more insidious ways of drug abuse ?

Violence, conflict , ethnic cleansing, terrorism; whatever name they give it does not change the cruelty inflicted on the innocents. Thank you for commenting and we all hope that the world will be at peace one day.

Excellent piece of work. I asked this many many times as I was growing up. Now, I have seen that many of these wars, if not all, are always brought about by religion. It seems that this is always the excuse for mass killings of innocents. I think this is very much overlooked and should be seen as a big problem. Religion has its place, but should not be interfering in politics or anyhting else. Your poem was very deep and spoke loudly about the futility of all wars where innocent ones always suffer the consequences of others actions. Brilliantly done.

I thank you very much for your great comment. It seems I am not the only one with thoughts along these lines. It is truly a blot on the character of all Govts that they cannot see the waste of their actions in making war, whether its based on religious or political grounds. Sadly most wars are started for business reasons or purely for power.

great piece mate... it does seem to be the only "God" people obey, yet religion is probably the biggest offender when it comes to war, someone doing something in the name of some god...

You have that right too Rob, fanatics being just plain murderers in the name of a religion. I doubt any religion has such doctrines, but are used by those ratbags as an excuse. Many thanks mate ,for your very welcome comments.

Very well written Bob and very true. I think we're all slow learners when it comes to war!

With the advent of the televised wars we have all been desensitised to the real horrors. If we had to see the carnage first hand, and smell the stink of war, we may be less tolerant of those who start them. Many thanks for commenting my friend.
