Raggy Boys

Catholic vestments upon schoolboys' uniforms
Once the good word has been preached.
Penance and clandestine lust.

White; purity, the light, the way,
Disguises the sinful black beast;
Almighty preacher, exhalted teacher.

A sweet for your trouble, sugar for forgiveness,
To recondition the emotional and physical anguish
Inspired by immaculate immorality.

Author notes

Sweet = Candy

Holy crap, no pun intended, I've actually written something!
Inspired by the film 'Song For A Raggy Boy'.

  • Thank you for your entry

    This is brilliant. Your words flow into one another well and twist round to create dark, intriguing and confronting images.

    Thank you for entering my contest and good luck

    A very interesting write. To many Catholics many things are a sin. As for me candy is dandy, but sex is so much better.

    Enjoyed this...and when I was a much younger man, I had a girlfriend who attended a catholic high school across town...she was wild young woman I can tell you that.

    This reflects the anguish and twisted feelings that are suffered by my Catholic friends and relatives. Really a good write.

    I can easily see how this is related to the film, my favourite lines were 3, 6 and 9 oddly enough seeming to follow the ending pattern of each stanza.
    Short and concise, and a knowledge of the film and the history behind it and your poem will bring out the underlying darkness.
    Congratulations
