Turn On The Radio

View from my Mom's Porch
 In Memory of Cora Woodruff
Cry not for me, I have not left.
I've merely changed addresses.
My love is here and will always be
in your smile and love for each other.
And if you feel a tear well up,
turn on the radio.
Listen close and you will hear me in the crowd;
Go Cubs, Go Braves and Touchdown Volunteers!
And late at night if you feel alone,
turn on the radio.
I will sing you a sweet, sweet song and sound like
Patsy Cline.
An Unforgettable it will be as we go,
Walking After Midnight.
Cry not for me, I have not left.
Just turn on the radio.
Don't touch that dial!

  • This is nicely written. I didn't know what to think when I saw the two line preview but you did well. It was very hopeful and it flowed smoothly. Always remember, "Home is where the heart is" Thanks for your entry, and good luck.

  • This is very good. Its quite hopeful and creates somewhat of a peaceful atmoshphere. I got an image in my head while reading this even though their is not excess of imagery. Thank you for entering my contest and good luck.

    Loved It

That view reminds me so much of back home in Maryland and some places in Pennsylvania. I live in Florida now, and as nice as it is, there's no views like that. But besides that, I found this poem to be really beautiful. I remember when I used to sing Patsy Cline for my grandmother that passed about 10 years ago. She was a great woman, as I'm sure Mrs. Woodruff must've been as well Fantastic write!

What a wonderful poem that you have written here. My grandmother too loved Patsy Cline and this totally brought back memories of here. Beautiful work here and good luck to you in these contests!

What a wonderful way to express the memory of those that have gone beyond. They do still speak to us in memory and spirit, forever in our hearts. Wonderful read.

Yeah, my fav. line was 'as we go'. It sparked some dandylion sensation inside me. I think I read that line 5 times before going to the next one.

What a loving tribute to your mother. My hubby came up with a quote when his father passed he said " you don't have to get used to Dad being gone but just now he's in another form" our loved ones will always be with us no matter where we go I truly believe this. I am sorry for your loss but I know your dear mother will always remain right by your side, and no don't ever change the dial on that radio. Thanks for sharing hope you have a blessed day, hugs Theresa

Wow! What a beautiful and honest tribute to your mother here! This poem has such a personal touch for her, and it allows the reader to get a glimpse into who she was as a person. I am sorry for your loss. I am sure she looks down on this poem with much joy and pride. Blessings, Patty
