Ignis Fatuus

Missing image
Onyx walls and jade stones
lie deep in the cotton fog
floating on a buttermilk sky ~

moats of silver lining
hovering in the summer breeze

leave me to envision
beryl streams;
and lucid dreams

aloft towers of vacant rooms
for vacant souls

whom gently shift through
air castles

lost eternally within the boughs
of my illusive reverie.

Author notes

ignis fatuus - Latin for Something that misleads or deludes; an illusion.

"towers of vacant rooms/for vacant souls - a nice echo of Emily Dickinson here. I enjoyed the imagry and detail in this piece. "illusive reverie" indeed.

It reads to me as a soft, quiet peaceful piece, read slowly, pensively even where every word is inhaled, mulled over and then slowly exhaled again.

You may wish to punctuate it a tad more to achieve this effect a bit better, but thats my personal choice pet, it will still have that effect regardless, beautiful work here.

    Ignis fatuus?

If my Latin is correct, I think it literally means "foolish fire."

Lol. But I suppose that does make sense, in a way.

    Nice poem as usual.
