Rusted Pennies

I was the old rusted penny
while you held today's luster
My mockery, a miserable mask
hid envious eyes

In the past my support was a paper bag
catching rain

it doesn't justify your pain
but if I fall asleep and stay that way
know that I loved you from day one

Author notes

Dedicated to my baby sister.
Words I've been to weak to say.

This is such a sad write with some powerful emotions shared. I hope you find the courage to share it with your sister one day. Great job on this poem, and thanks so much for entering. Blessings, Patty
