The tale of the West ‘tis a tale of wonder,
something most any wag will tell to you;
carried forever by the cowboy’s thunder.
The love, the tempest, the sometimes plunder,
the cowboy’s gang it was a motley crew.
The tale of the West ‘tis a tale of wonder.
The strength of men put on saddles asunder,
through cactus, through rain, through the sun and the dew;
carried forever by the cowboy’s thunder.
On hill, on plain, on range without blunder,
they rode with the will and the joy of few.
The tale of the West ‘tis a tale of wonder.
Gone now is the shouting, the thrill gone under,
no one remembers the story so true;
carried forever by the cowboy’s thunder.
Tell me it’s not so, say that it’s not true,
that the cowboy has past and left me blue-
The tale of the West ‘tis a tale of wonder,
carried forever by the cowboy’s thunder.
Author notes
This is about a certain longing I have for the Old West, good and bad. It is written quite like a villanelle, but is not quite perfect. Oh, well, guess I'll go clean my guns...

The cowboys thunder comes alive in me like it must you.. every time I challenge my self on horseback to ride longer, faster, harder I use to ride endurance wish never had given it up.. to push yourself and horse against nature and other people is the ultimate to be the best physical shape and to have the quickest mind the best decisions the ultimate time.. The thunder is still here cowboy we just need to keep it going.. I love this write it makes my blood sing. Thank you.

This just full of metaphoric views, as i read on each line balanced the next beautifully. Tell of the past, and how we remember it all now...I long to be back in those times when a man stood for the his rights..cleaned his guns and loved his horse....you made these feeling come alive when i read this.....and excellent poem for this contest....I love you baby.......

Hard to believe that this age was really as short as it wasbut I guess that's
due to all the movies and tv series they made about it.
I can remember Wed night was western night, Gunsmoke, Have Gun
Will Travel, The Rifleman. Yep back when there was even such a thing
as a colored tv only black and white with that big white light ring around
the tv tube...
