Hell Hath Their Fury

Afraid to live, afraid to die,
I lay between two dreadful fates;
In life, my current wife awaits.
In death, the rest. I dare not die.

I know I'll meet with Emma there.
I'll feel her claws and rightly so.
And Esmerelda's too. I know
Matilda's waiting dark and fair.

And Angelina, pale and light,
Will not hold back as once in life.
They - all my loves - will cause me strife
For I was wrong and they were right.

Like Tantalus, I won't be slaked,
Beguiled by Chloe's charms again.
I'll know their agonies times ten
In penance for the loves I faked.

Yes, Morgan has her plans for me
And Christie has to pay me back.
Young Brie will stretch me on the rack.
Their revelry, my misery!

I can not die. God, why? Oh! Why?
Alas, I know, it's all deserved.
As I served them, so I'll be served.
Why wait? Why not just let me die?

I miss them all so terribly...

    Wonderful. Just wonderful.

This is how it's done. Man! You are just so good. I read this one before, and now again. Every time, just wonderful.

This is a joy to recite outloud. The fluid meter simply carries the reader without effort as if each word was meant to be exactly where it is from the beginning of time. The content is original and captivating.

A question that is often pondered
for if the other side is so wonderful as some proclaim
then why cling to this side so frantically...

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant poem! If this is not your best, then, certainly one of your best. Exceptional piece of writing. Needless to say I loved it.

reminds me of poem by Bandeira where a man moved everytime his wife had an affair and he wound up with many, many addresses, the list became comic and here...for me so many tragic mentions loses the serious effect of eternal agony to a sort of ad infinitum... a bold idea here, though very imaginative...PK

    Very, very interesting...
This is very dark, for you - something I haven't seen before; reading all the names makes me wonder if these are personal demons or actual people - maybe you'd want to note that in the AN.
