A Symphony Of Red And Issue Khaki

Missing image
So many lives destroyed.
Men, women and children, cut down in their prime.
Wrong place, wrong time.
As a force to be reckoned with...marches on.

Were they fed on lies?
An arsenal of weapons at their disposal;
aimed at destroying more innocent lives.
When will any of them learn that two wrongs don't make a right?

In a violent flash of blinding light, veiled in plumes of choking smoke,
another falls...the shrapnel embedding itself miles away,
piercing a mothers heart...the call she has dreaded...

holding her breath, she slowly falls apart..."I'm sorry," the voice said.
Inconsolable, she sobs, another innocent life lost...her son dead...
Hours before she had been planning his home coming party,
now he lies alone drenched in a symphony of red and issue khaki.

    Wow.

This was one very haunting poem, sis. A heartbreaking story of a loved one lost to violence. One of your best ones. Good job.

    WHEN WILL THEY LEARN, INDEED!

It seems that everywhere one turns these days there's an idiot who wants to start another war - and what it is all for? A piece of land, a religious belief, more money for a chosen few - while so many Mothers' sons and daughters lives are cut short - for the sport of a few warmongers. Whatever happened to sitting down and using our intelligence to talk thinks out? IF we are the smartest species on Earth than why can't we get along like many other species do - is what I'd like to know. GOOD LUCK in the contest with this thought provoking piece, Baby!
    Peace & Love!
    Earl.

away from what I usually write..this was
all I could think to write after seeing your prompt
      infact it wrote itself.

    Different for you!

In a very good way. You used your poetic skills to state a strong point. Why are so many innocents dying and for what reasons? It is a type of poetry that takes you down the path of social activism and gives your words a relevancy that others can connect to.
