What is
The American Dream?
To live
In large,
white,
fenced houses?
To know
The next check,
the next bill,
will be paid in full?
To laugh
At the concept of needs?
To cry
But have no reason to do so?
To fulfill
All wants?
To deny
Any worry,
any pain?
Is this
The American Dream?
I am an American.
I have a dream
To live
With my head held high,
anytime,
anywhere.
To know
I am loved,
that I do love.
To laugh
Simply because I can.
To cry
For laughing so hard!
To fulfill
Intangible needs;
to be someone’s everything.
To deny nothing,
simply out of acceptance for all.
This is
My American Dream.

i like this... although i see it as more of a speech or a declaration than a poem.
good luck in my contest. -
While this poem is touching indeed and beautifully created I don't see the topic of the contest in this.
To write about the corruption and injustices of the government.
Again, I love the poem, I appreciate the message and this deserves recognition for what it is but i just don't see how this fits.
I'm sorry, it truly is a gold worthy piece for another contest.
