For every lock, a key

Doors appear, set in tidy rows
On each door, there sits a window
Through these windows one can see
the life and times of happy memories
But look one must even when curiosity begs
The soul isn’t quite prepared to view such dread

In one specific window, theirs a kid laughing away
Open the door and you can see the picture change
The kid is alone, crying out for a sincere touch
Afraid of despair, but never showing feelings much
Emotions are a blessing but should seep through
This is what daddy taught when he gave the kid his bruise

Now peep into this scene, one of a joyous pair
A couple of young, their gender they share
Let’s open this door, what do we see?
A lifetime of hate and tradition’s cruelty
Still, they march on even at impossible odds
Hearts hold on strong even when hope is shot

Onto the next glass, what can we find?
Ah, a man who works two jobs and never has time
Again, we’ll seep in, open the door for just a peek
Here we see an alcoholic who drinks all week
The jobs are for consumption of every event
From the birthdays of passed kids and the wedding of his love who left him

Doors have locks for a cause, everyone’s is the same
Either the truth is too bitter or they hide the real pain
A window view is always better, most will agree
Just keep in mind, for every lock there is also a key
