"As I live and breathe, child, you are a sight for sore eyes!"
She was a river of life, not placid nor turbulent,
active without rushing, moving in one place.
In daily trouble somehow she found peace,
sadness and smiles had worn tracks on her face.
Her faith was practical but always clear to see,
no talk when arms were needed to embrace
a grieving soul; she was acquainted with loss.
Though death touched her and her circle
with gaping voids and inadequate reactions,
faith, eternal hope and stubborn love drew her
forward, ready with mundane distractions -
a meal for those unaware of their hunger.
The passage of love does not allow abstractions;
her restful soul is signed with her beloved cross.
She was a river of life, not placid nor turbulent,
active without rushing, moving in one place.
In daily trouble somehow she found peace,
sadness and smiles had worn tracks on her face.
Her faith was practical but always clear to see,
no talk when arms were needed to embrace
a grieving soul; she was acquainted with loss.
Though death touched her and her circle
with gaping voids and inadequate reactions,
faith, eternal hope and stubborn love drew her
forward, ready with mundane distractions -
a meal for those unaware of their hunger.
The passage of love does not allow abstractions;
her restful soul is signed with her beloved cross.
Author notes
Vivianne Eve The persona is a family friend. The name Vivianne comes from Latin, Vivianus "alive"; Eve comes from Hebrew, Chavah "to breathe, to live". The vitality of this name is clear, and the person who bears it is a force of life and hope.

The name is lovely, and your poem lives up to its beauty. What a powerfully wonderful way to show honor to another, giving life to them through your poetic words. Margaret, you are without a doubt, my favorite poet ever. I am honored to know you. Love, Patricia

The model for this lady is my mother's best friend for sixty-five years. She is a magnificent woman.
Thank you for your praise, it is most welcome.

One of your best!
The penning of a professional poet with grace and ease and mechanics of a fine tuned poetic engine. EXCELLENT!!!

What a beautiful name! The meaning is of a celestial knowing, and I have a friend named Vivian. She doesn't even use a last name.
Your ability to express the image of soul shines in this sonnet, Margaret...of one who gives and lives well. The line that catches at my breath is: "The passage of love does not allow abstractions." We might see love in various ways, but the continuityi of love is that it moves and rests in action.
....a lovely tribute to your friend.

Thanks Karen.
I'm glad you picked out that line, it is one of my favorites here too. Love is action, not mere abstraction.
