Here's a song once dedicated to a lover,
who's words turned to sounds of thunder.
Crashes from a storm horizon bound,
lifting my earthbound gaze in wonder.
I danced beneath moonshine that watched from above,
reflecting, deflecting the songs of our love.
Now your voice collides with the stars in my skies
dampening what once I sighed under cover of candlelight-
When I would confide my wild mind to a whirlwind,
praise the rain of destruction as I watched you ruin.
Swore I wouldn’t change a thing,
I still wouldn’t change anything.
And even as you did reprove my heart,
I promised to suffer each lash from finish to start.
I’ll just fill the cracks you’re leaving there with seeds,
and pray begging on my knees for someone
for someone to water me if they please.
Even the gashes you leave are
making room for forests to grow,
Don't you see you’re a pen
leaving marks on me like
sparks igniting kerosene
to set aflame soul untamed,
through pitch black these
thoughts remain burning
everything in vain.
There was a day I wished I cared less,
who I broke with my actions, wished
this wasn’t such a mess, wished for
painted reactions.
And even though I have no mind space,
your thoughts alone can save me
from wearing old torn lace.
Your words fill me quick
and are slow to drain,
like I never knew insanity
could be so sane.
Or such a massive tragedy
could go without incision.
I won’t become the decision
being made for me.
Will not ever loose this vision,
of beautiful lovers in unity.
I’ll just be a shaking beaten bloodied stranger,
Thrashing in the dark.
Crying cause his lighter,
don’t have any spark.
Crying cause he can’t light that last cigarette,
before it all goes to shit.
And people don’t know he could have been king,
and there wouldn’t be anything like poverty,
malnutrition or disease on the city streets.
And I hope you know I just wanted to bring you peace!
But even those with the best intentions,
come up with the worst inventions-
like when Einstein split the atom,
and gave birth to atomic bombs.
Like when I decided
to stop singing this song.
And started carving masterpieces,
into my flesh.
Cause I was running so fast,
I became out of breath.
