For You

Missing image

As I watch you walk away ..

You in your gray sweatshirt contouring your familiar shape

deliberately confident with each echoed step you'd take.

While my heart has lost a home I still set you on your own..

Watching you board that modern bird
where will it take you and
have you heard?

The song we used to sing every time the new day can bring..

Us hope.

Tomorrow engraved in our eyes all the while ..

Me knowing soon you would be going.

Time hasn't healed this wound..
Yet I knew I would have to
Stop longing...

Author notes

This was my perspective of raw emotions at an earlier time in my life.
But as we grow we learn.
Sometimes..it's our heart that doesn't always catch up.

What did you think

  • Yes, this is a wonderful sharing of raw emotions... images and memories that conjure up memories. I think most of us can relate to moments and feelings like these. Nicely expressed.

  • I am familiar with your theme in this piece, that regret and sadness of leaving, or being left..., but those things make us, do they not? There is wisdom in
    the sadness. Nice write!

Welcome to Allpoetry and thank you for entering the contest

Your heart is clearly sad, shown in the perfect word choice that creates a melancholy mood. The pain is evident, and drips from your page.

Welcome to Allpoetry and thank you for entering our contest

However, to qualify for placement, you need to include your option choice in your authors notes.

I hope that you enjoy the site, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask

  • Welcome to Allpoetry

The perfect expression of melancholy; I recall feeling similarly, and letting go of a loved-one, whether through a breakup or a death, is never easy. Of course, we all move forward at our own respective paces; I did, and you will too

Keep writing, and keep up the good work!

    Welcome to All Poetry

A sad write that can be taken in many ways. The imagery you used for this was great. One suggestion is to put the option number that you have chosen in your Author Notes, people can get DQ'd for not having that there. Thank you for sharing, best of luck in the contest.

      Hi Sarah,

      Thanks for your comments..appreciate them.
I'm a bit confused on what you suggest though..
This is my first time really joining any poetry community on line.
So it's not exactly clear on anything more than submitting my work..sorry
      Don't have a clue :~(
      Take care

No worries. So what you do is click on the title of this poem. Once you have opened it, click on Edit, it is on the right side of the screen underneath User Options. Scroll down the page until you see Any Notes? In the box beneath it, click on the option number that you have chosen for the contest (option 1) etc. Then scroll to the bottom and click submit.
        Hope that helps,
