Christmas Day With My Loved Ones (Gold )

As I get older I've come to believe...
that Christmas is not always as we like to perceive
The family gathers as we all expect
then...at the end of the day leaves my house a complete wreck

They hang their stockings on the chimney with care
There's sure more there then I remember last year
Gifts over flow under the tree
and the hound dog lays around scratching his fleas

As usual a potluck is the order of our day
"Oh!" they said, "I didn't have time to cook I was busy at play."
No food would be coming of that there was no doubt
Good thing we know this family inside and out

Busy we were baking and cooking
No breaks for us would we be taking
A full course meal was prepared for the table
The channel was tuned to football on cable

Dinner is over, gifts have been exchanged
I'm beginning to feel a little deranged
New toys every where with no place to walk
I keep taking sneak peeks up at the clock

The kids run rampant as parents are relaxing
Family gatherings for me have become quite taxing
But holidays are for sharing and enjoying each other
Mother, father, aunts, uncles, sister and brothers

So my hope for when the next holiday rolls around
We'll all be together including that hound
They are all survivors of that there is no doubt
Because I know this family inside and out

Thanks wingsofgold for reading my poem and commenting...you are right, I would not trade them for any thing...with all their faults I love them one and all...and hope to have them around me for many more holidays to come...How boring for those who have only perfection around them

LOL, I know the feeling. I used to have dinner at my mom's big mistake. All the family there, all their kids screaming, yelling, misbehaving, running up and down te house, parents too blind or too ignorant to control them...I always left very early!

Basketball games are on Christmas so I sit alone and watch them and revel in the quiet!

Hey I just realized, you might be talking our Catz!!!!! lol

Her comment is funny, again, sounds like my life, lol

      Hey Yem,

Thanks for reading my Christmas complaint...

No, I wasn't talking about Catz..she couldn't be here during the holidays ...but would love to see her kicking and screaming...and throwing a hissy fit...Now that would be a sight for poor eyes...make the rest of the commotions worth while.....

Ain't it the truth, Darlene !!!
At least our kids are beginning to realize what we went through when they were growing up, now that they have families of their own to deal with.

As for potlucks... remember when we'd have a potluck and would end up with so much food with EVERYONE bringing some. Now I think they all take it to mean a chance to be lucky to eat out of someone else's pot. It's a pet peeve of mine to have people show up empty handed even when you ask them ahead of time "do you know what you'll be bringing?" They don't even take the hint.

    I'm rambling...

A good poem, Darlene and I wish you best in the contest, Sis

    love and
    Dee

      Hi Sis,

See what you are missing by not spending the holidays with the kids... maybe you should think twice about going north for them next year...
