Stained-Glass Windows

Falling fast into the depths
Rocks so jagged and sharp
A hurting ache felt inside
Inching quickly towards the ground
Little hopes now long gone.

Tattered ribbons of a once pretty dress
Eating away the beauty within
Aching hearts with final beats
Racing towards eternity
So help me God, I'm dying inside.

Over the years, watching through a stained-glass window
Futures just as blurry as the past.

Those dreams that played within my mind's eye
Hover through that taunting window
Ever only showing off the mistakes that were made.

Dreams that will never be achieved
Always haunt me in all I do
Mayhaps it was always this way
Never being able to achieve those dreams
Each dream lost behind that damned stained-glass window
Deep-rooted nightmares of the past always etched on that stained-glass window.

Great use of the stained-glass window metaphor. That really made this piece pop. Excellent write and good luck in my contest.
