Lies

Mother told me once,
but you said she didn't understand.
She said you'd leave me broken and battered,
another fallen victim before your hand.

Is it the sound you love to hear
of my tortured, painful screams?
Or maybe it's the fist to face,
you always loved the extremes.

Tell me lies, baby,
keep on whispering in my ear.
Tell me those things that you think
I'm not woman enough to hear.

Go on and show her that side of you
that you used to show only to me.
And maybe one day you'll give me the strength
to finally set myself free.

You deserve to drown in these tears!
Why should it be me that cries?
Just give me what I know is coming,
let me fall asleep to the sound of your lies.

Wow, this is a very deep and emotion filled poem. The imagery is amazing. The flow could be better, but none-the-less its good. "Or maybe its the fist to face, you always loved the extremes" That was my favorite line, I could just see what was going on. Great job and good luck.

    Great flow and vividly composed

The flow is creamy smooth despite the irony of the subject you write about.
    Lovely.
    I wouldn't change a thing really.
This speaks of love, desperation, pain and strength all rolled into one.

  • This poem really does reach out to me. I haven't been in that situation perse, but I know people that have, sadly. I really felt the emotion in this, it's a great write. Good luck in the contest!

Honestly me either. I did go through an abusive situation for a few years, but it was done by my step-dad...I've never been in an abusive relationship. Thank God for that though. I feel so horrible for people that have, I really don't understand how one person can treat another person that way. Thanks for the comment though, I always appreciate reads
