Always the friend when you’re in need,
did you ever return this simplest deed?
I sure as hell can’t ever remember.
[I quit]
Was our main topic ever so absurd,
when we would mix and blend our words?
Of course it was, it was always you
[One more time: I quit]
Did you ever give me the time of day
of your own accord, without delay?
Never without me talking first.
[So I will say this first: I quit]
There I was again, a substitute to call upon
when someone else’s shit had all gone wrong,
it’s a part I always seem to play.
[Two easy little words: I quit]
I can see your innocent face thinking I’m rude,
try this, look in the mirror, check your attitude,
did you ever stop to think? No?
[The blame lies at your feet: I quit]
A sob, a whimper another guilt trip tear,
do you think this time, I’m going to stop to hear?
You could never be more wrong.
[These are my final two words: I quit]
Author notes
Prompt: 3. Song Lyrics:- I Quit (Hepburn)
This is about friends, you know the sort, we all have at least one (or many) selfish, self absorbed, self centred friends like this.
This went completely in a direction that I didn't intend, but, there it is. Written as lyrics, the bracketed 'I Quit' lines serve as the chorus, each time repeated four times.
