how have you been?
so your smoking again,
i never really stopped
no, i haven't been seeing other men
your voice is some how different
so a stuffy nose comes with it,
i'm breathing just fine
no, i haven't had the time to fix it
how's life at your job?
so your still turning that knob,
i haven't found one yet
no, i'm keeping from being a slob
haven't been thinking about you and me?
staying single for a while is key,
i just want to be with you
no, with that i can't agree
Author notes
this is how it went down.
don't you hate the small talk?

Maybe if you put a note in your authors notes to say this is all your conversation it would be followed easier as such? You do however portray the clumsiness and distance of conversing after break up and the mood it sets.

Awkward is a part of the these kinds of situations there is really no way to avoid it. It's a bit weird you can twist it into a short poetic write. I like the idea of keeping some spaces to suggest a pause or silence between the two of you. Makes the mind wonder is being said or what is being thought at those breaks.

I had some trouble following the convo, some of it I got confused as to who was saying what. But I can get the general idea of it, and that must have been a really short and uneasy conversation. I tend not to talk to exes for several months to avoid any awkwardness, because yeah, I can get really awkward. Good write, keep em coming.
