Waiting to Wake

You look so peaceful in your suit-
a porcelain doll painted in ink.
Like a baby again, sleeping softly
with a life of experience before you.
I kiss your forehead and I wait
for your hand. I wait
for you to kiss me back. I wait
for the corners of your mouth
to give into your smile. My world.
But you lay still,
cold in your coffin.
Tears fall on your head and I am wishing
for you to make me better again.
But you remain unmoved.
I won't let them bury you,
I want to wait for your eyes to open.
I want to feel our love
coursing through your veins again.
I know I must be dreaming.

Please tell me what you think

yes. the surreal feeling of standing before the empty shell of a loved one in disbelief. the information is so hard to process - this poem captures that. i don't know if this was taken from real life experiences or not - but either way you deserve a hug.

This was really sad. I was expecting it to be happy at first, then you said the person was in a coffin. This is well written though. Has a very nice beat to it, good flow. Thanks for sharing.
