Get Up!

Raise your hands high
Let the joy take over
Shake your body down
Inhale the clean clovers
Do it for brotherhood
til it’s golden brown
Everybody get up
New blood been found

Can you feel the thrill
You might even see it
on the streets
Running through
depressed parts of town
Ain’t nobody depressed you meet
Hardly with that snazzy mellow sound
Everybody get up!
A new presence abounding

Ain’t nobody walking the same
Don’t nobody want to
Cause there’s a different spirit
Wanna share it with you
Ain’t talkin about a visit to the Wiz
Don’t have to be fraid of Evilene
I’m talkin bout the big man
Treading bright horizons before
unseen

He is just one man but he ain’t like
nuthin you ever saw
People sheddin tears but the
cheeks ain’t really raw
That’s called happy water
Ain’t consumed with a frown
Everybody on yo feet
There’s a new dance from the mountains

Not for the weak at heart
Ain’t no place for the valley low
You gone have to fire it up
Get cho self ready to go
So wave your goodbyes
Wish those in the air
safely to the ground
Everybody stay up…!
There’s a new order in this town

When we know that good is bigger than bad and the chance for happiness is greater than sad, it reconfigures our relationship with the universe. I heard it in the sixties when music changed the town. Now the good vibes born from earlier decades has finally come to Washington town. The White House has got color and it ain't just the Blue Room waiting for a foriegn king. It is the guy in the big chair in the Oval office who is making all of MLK's dreams the real thing. So sing and dance, write the jazz verse that lifts up hearts and hands. We shall dance all of us who have waited and worked hard for change so long in this New Land.
    Love,
