Eye to eye, toe to toe,
You sleep, and I smile
Of all the beautiful things
In life I’ve been blessed to see,
None will ever compare
To the face laying on my pillow
Cheek to cheek, hand in hand
We walk step by step
We’ll see all there is to see
If we have to walk the miles by foot,
Never knowing the destination
Just enjoying the companionship
Eye to eye, toe to toe,
You sleep and I wake
Looking across the bed
My eyes lay only on tan painted walls
A tear wells up and I know
The salty taste of reality yet again
Dream of pain, wake to find no wound
Dream of love, start the day with an ache

Alex, this is a wonderful poem. Wonderful, but sad. I can tell there is a lot of emotion put into this piece, and I'm so sorry for heartache! If anything good can come of it, you're making gorgeous poetry with the pain...so for that perhaps, you can be thankful?
