efforts past caught by heart and spirit
seek end. But, accept
it will be the children’s children to inherit.
Every sit-in, march marks the path.
When reward comes ‘ere the work done,
breath quickens, eyes mist, blood burns.
Sing joy for everyone.

Author notes
I don't think we can ever stop standing for equality, freedom, peace and justice. It requires vigilance and hard work to get it and then even more to keep it. But today, we had a large reward in this fight. I cried during his acceptance speech.
Please tell me what you think, what it makes you feel, how you are moved.

Each line written here expresses hope, JOY, life, and living. We have accomplished much that I have had the opportunity to witness in my lifetime but as you express so eloquently...
"it will be the children’s children to inherit."
We are living in a time of great healing. I feel it and by the looks of this poem so do you. Thank you for this encouraging entry and I wish you well in the challenge.
Much Love ♥

I have found that you act out of what you think is right at best and to avoid what you fear at worse. It is good to see our best put forward. But changes come through generations. What my parent's generation began in Little Rock (to pick one time in space since it was begun as soon as any human knew the lash and chains of slavery), I worked to continue but still was all too familiar with the hatred and bigotry I grew up in. Our generation began to make normal and institutionalized the changes sought by our parents. Now, my son treats as normal (how could it possibly be different) what has happened. He gets that bigotry exisits and it can be cruel and wrong but has no experience of it as an institution. This is both good and bad. Good that the change has begun, bad that he doesn't know the ground won which makes it to easy to lose.

This poem had a very beautiful quality to it. I found that the most powerful part was the opening, which too few poems do. well done

You have five words to grab your audience. Least, I think. It is easy to hold them, but most are not willing to continue to read if the opening doesn't grab their attention. So, I feel highly complimented by your comment. Thank your for finding this poem to hold a beautiful quality. I wanted to share the feeling that we have made a giant step on a long road, but a path well worth the work and the walk.

It is the noble thing...
isn't it. Too stand for what is right but unfortunately as many who feel that there are others who don't share the idea of benevolence and good nature but it is a wonderful person that finds the value in it...one of the many reasons I continue to
read your poetry...your heart is painted aross it.

It is easy to be rightous and be bigoted as hell. It is harder to keep the doors to the universe open and swinging freely as you learn and relearn all that is possible. When we realize that fear closes down the possiblity we have in life and that only by standing for a truly well graced world can we begin to realize our potentials. I would run on, but I probably would be paraphrasing MLK and other great men. So I will just leave it with my thanks and appreciation for all the honor you give me.

Growing up is so hard to do.

I didn't know the changes could come so quickly. You work at it for a long time and it seems that little changes. It is a grand and wonderful thing now.

She says we're making history. She also said Dr. King would be proud, because he died fighting for what he believed in.
All I could do was hug her tight, so she wouldn't see my tears.
Love always,
jin

We create the world. Every one of us and the sum for good, tolerance, mercy is starting to out weigh the indifferent, the greedy, the fools, the evil. We, all who truly care, are making a difference. The road is long. This is a great victory but the journey is far from over.

Yay! Isn't it wonderful to see something this significant happen in our lifetime. And though we have lived through many milestones [good&bad] This one sings a little closer to our hearts. Hope seems to have found a place on our lips again and THAT has been a long time coming!!!

I agree ever so much. It made all the names I was called while standing in protest lines and the abuse poured out during sit ins well rewarded. I think his call to the country was a well heard call and perhaps we can return to a country of can doers instead of a country of entitlement.
