In my household two abide
Who rule my heart, I must confide.
Sam and Sophie, from away,
Showed up on the Web one day.
Rescued in an alley dark
From Kentucky they'd embark
First to Michigan for care,
Then Wisconsin, fostered there.
Maine Coon Rescue claimed these two
And put them on the Web in queue.
When I spied their faces there
E-mails flew on ether air!
I knew not when they would arrive
But soon I took a four hour drive.
Foster mom gave me their crate;
I put my fingers through the grate.
Sam the larger gave a purr
Sophie, smaller, offered fur
For me to pet and I was lost;
They'd be mine at any cost!
Siblings and they look a pair
But differ in the length of hair,
And toys they like and food they chew;
Sometimes they seem like ten, not two!
They rule from roof to window screen,
Kitchen, porch and in between,
The bed, the chair, the laundry cart;
But most of all they have my heart.
Those furry beasts are queen and king
To me they are just every thing!

What gorgeous critters they are, too. I once had three cats - a brother, sister, then one from a litter of hers that I'd kept. They were great sources of entertainment for me, for sure. Then later, I had a Llaso Apso named Sadie and a black cat named Baxter who were the best of friends. They all made such great company. Beautifully penned, Lita.

These are my favorite lines. I really loved the pictures. I also love cats. Very good poem.

LOL...Excellent!
Hey Lita, I love the rhyming here and the cats look so good. This was so much more than a piece with wonderful rhyming and great flow; it was a compelling story you let us know. I couldn't help stop smiling at the excitement you offered up in this masterfully done piece. Bravo! (I wish this was in a contest...hahaha). It got me in the mood to read a story from you.

Beautiful
*laughs* such a well crafted poem that comes from the depths of your heart. Very well done.

Thank you so much -- they make me laugh every day!

HEARTWARMING!
I just loved this. You have an effortlessly well flowing rhyme, very well done!
Your pictures are delightful too!
Dandelion, Otto, Olive (Ollie Ali) and, Onion (my four cats) say to tell Sam and Sophie, "HI! (meow)"
Good luck in the contest, thank you for entering!
PEACE
P.S. Pictured with me is my Otto.

Otto is a cutie! Is he an orange tabby, short hair? I had an orange tabby when I was about ten, and loved him madly. Just like my two now, he seemed to have a lot of love to spare. Thanks for the kind comments; I'm glad you liked my "babies!"

Oh, yes, a shorthair, his brother who lives with my Mama is such a dark orange he is nearly red and very long haired. Otto is; Oto Rex, my King Thunderpaw, he is the world's biggest mush, and so horrendously jealous of the other cats! I am his personal domain, just ask him! lol
All of my cats prefer the two large dogs to one another, they are all so opinionated, I just adore them!
Your Sam and Sophie are very beautiful. What amazing friends they are to us.

I love cats and yours are so cute. These felines really do rule the roost when in your home. They have an aristocratic aura, self assured yet dependant. I love that about cats. great write...alby

In the top picture they really do look like they should have crowns. And you know, I couldn't have ever gotten them to assume that pose! I was just glad I had my camera in hand when I spotted them through the doorframe! Happy to share them with you by AP!

aww, this is sweet.
They look so much like my cat Chichi...we adopted her from the Humane Society. It's not the name I would've picked for her, but it's the name she came with.
they definitely do steal your heart, don't they

-
-
Why they do look like your picture, don't they! Yes, they just worm their way in, and we're stuck! Of course I wouldn't trade 'em for anything. Right now we are fighting a battle (well, no, I'm giving in) over whether they will eat Friskies or Fancy Feast; I just bought some more Fancy Feast... such a pushover (was that a little purr I heard???)

Aww....this poem wonderfully and vividly shows the fondness that you have for your king and queen and how they rule you.

Their pictures made me smile.

the Maine Coon Cat is the most beautiful breed of cat, they are supposed to be big and indepedant. So many writers need animals around them, do they sit on your keyboard?
-
-
I have a laptop and they just hate it when it is in my lap and they aren't. They try to sit on my chest, only both are now so big, they hang off either side of me, and I am a large woman! When I type at the table, one sits on my papers or the printer, while the other sits under the chair or on my lap. They are both classic colors, but Sam is a mackeral (striped-sided) while Sophie is a tabby with a large black swatch down her back. But face on, or tail on (
!) they look almost identical. I think they are secretly muses and help me to write in different styles -- only I don't know which is which!

You have two of the most adorable cats with charming names and a great poet to write for them. It would appear that they have you just where they want you...cats are highly intelligent, and these two are no exception.
All the best in the contest

Thank you for your sweet comments -- I did add a picture at the end, if you want to check it out -- it shows their more rambunctious personality, while the top picture is rather regal!

You can come back now! These are my babies, Sophie in back, about 9 lbs., and Sam in front, about 12 lbs. They are staring at a clock on the wall, watching the second hand -- I caught them through the door frame!
