Why Do I Love You

You asked me why I love you

And so I asked myself, too

Trying to find the reasons

For loving you as I do

Can it be the twinkle in your eyes

Or for your crooked smile

Or the flirtacious way you tilt your head

One more way to me you beguile

I thought of all the little meanings

That only I can feel and see

Of how you love me so very much

And always enjoy my company

Do I love you because you’re funny

In so many things you say and do

Or is it that you always show you care

And tell me you love me true

I can’t think of just one reason

To define the way I feel

I just know you mean the world to me

And that my love is real

  • Did I miss this contest...don't remember it...but any way...this is nice...

  • "Funny"is important so long as it isn't cruel, though even the occasional cruelty doesn't kill love.

It's indefinable is what you are saying, I think.

Enjoyed your write. Congrats on the HM.

This piece was rather heartwarming, and received it's well-earned hm! I loved the rhyming scheme, because it was unforced, your vocabulary was extensive, and it seemed to add a vibrancy to the love you spoke of. Your emotions truly emanate from each word, and whoever it is that they are expressed for, is a lucky man!

I cannot believe I haven't read your works in so long! If I have more time, I shall come back soon. It's midterms week coming up, though, so I should get studying (grrr). Have a great weekend, though! It was nice to see a charming write, rather than the dark ones I normally read.

Speaking of the perfect, home-grown love
I can only hope to find this one day. I have faith that God has someone out there for me, somewhere.

It's really all of the little things that come together to make an imperfect person perfect in our eyes.

    Congratulations on your HM,

    Zach

This is a really nice poem. It shows true emotion, and its a very strong question. Its one of them, I can't put my finger on just one thing so its just because I do, take it or leave it. The imagery is really nice too. I loved the flow and the context. The rhyme and rhythm were amazing as well. Nicely done Dee.

Yep, I feel this way and I know I'm lucky And I think he feels the same way about me. Thank you, Wesley, for your nice comment. You know, it's not too late to find love, my friend... or for it to fond you. There really is nothing that compares. I was 59 years old when he and I first met and we'd both been through other marriages.

True love lasts forever and endures most all things. My heart mourns for those who claim not to have been loved, and those who do not know how to love.

Your poem fits the season Sis'. I know you and Sal could write a book. If you do, please send me a copy, me and Ray still have things to learn. I wish you the best in the contest.

    Always ♥

Seems we never really stop learning, always some new discovery or lesson in each day. Thank you, Renee, for your reading and comment. And as for you and Ray... hey, I'm pretty sure it's not all sunshine and roses, I don't think it is for anyone, but you two seem to have a lot going for you, Sis

What I like about this is that you listed many reasons you could love the person, defining qualities that one can love but even over all of that you just know that you love them without reason, it doesn't matter how many lovely things you think about them... they just mean the world. Your rhyming in this was done wonderfully, I'm not one to rhyme to well I must admit I'm rather envious of those who can.
A beautiful write here, and again thank you for reading my poem as well =)

Thank you for your read and comment. Yes, love is many things, feelings. It's so very hard to describe, it's much easier to 'feel' it

Love is a difficult word to define isn't it? In black and white, Webster's version just doesn't seem to do it justice. Your poem may not give all the reasons but the rhythm and rhyme tell the story quite well. Good luck in the contest.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

Dear Dee, it's wonderful to be loved and cherished by our partners, it is the little things that endeared us to them over the years that keeps that love strong, we don't always know why we love them, we just know we do.
    Beautifully written.

And that is all that matters ultimately...that we feel the love and send it back. Ultimately the why's are unimportant, as long as they are there in some unexplainable form. Sort of like me and bologna. I have no idea why I like it, I just do.

Oh, no... another guy full of bologne. Sal is a bologne lover, too, as long as there's no 'mechanically seperated chicken" in it. His has got to be all beef, to him everything else is road kill.

Thanks for the read and comment, Yem

Tee hee! I'm laughing at the pure fact of love requireing being loved in return. Ain't being adored the very best thing though!

It's especially nice when both love and adoration are present. They fit nicely hand in hand, don't they
