he has only one picture

for every minute spent
for every second loved
he has only one picture
for every time we danced
for every night we didn't sleep
he has only one picture
for every good bye kiss
for every long stare
he has only one picture
for every hang over
for every cigaret butt
he has only one picture
for every day he was missed
for every phone call received
he has only one picture
for every night i stay awake
for every time i break
he has only one picture

and he always will be smiling.

Author notes

What a beautiful poem. I'm sorry it didn't work out, and don't hate me for this... but at least you have the memories. What use are pictures without the memories that go along with them, photos are often stowed away... like in the shoebox under your bed that will later be burnt... but memories, and beautiful, heartfelt words like the ones you've just written last forever.

Sometimes one picture is all you need... It is enough to remember the good times... If something doesn't work out, then having too many memories of it will only cause pain. Good write though. God bless.

Perhaps the picture you are keeping means something more to you. Another meaning to help you remember good times rather than the bad.

this is the one that made her cry.
the picture makes my represents all that i have lost.
it is all i have left. and the saddest thing about the only
thing i have left is he is smiling while i am crying.

I got the idea that this was sad, at first
    and with the last line,
    I doubted this,
but I remain secure in my interpretation.
I kept thinking of it as a bad thing that there was only a single picture. Like it was worth more than the proof there is.

Shows how I feel about my own life

Other than our separate meanings for the same exact words, on the same exact page,
    this was great.

The one thing I would suggest is
    perhaps
    changing just One
of the "He has only one picture"
    somewhere in the middle
    to a slight variation.
I kept expecting it to be like
    "for every hang over
    for every cigaret butt
    only one picture"
    without the "He has"

I love the repetition and the story that goes along with it. Its funny I had only one good photo of my last boyfriend and it was AFTER we broke up. gotta love irony. All and all awesome write!

When you see something and can appreciate it for its pure mortality, you should take a picture every chance you get...without it being awkward or creepy. I wish I had a camera sometimes these days, because in my few short years on Earth, I have noticed that a picture immortalizes the finite mortality of the fleeting moment. There have been many times I wish I could have done that, so I could look back and see the moment again and have it come to life. Good write.
