The Bumblebee Child

Impossible
you
cannot
you
are
not
free
to

............Y
.........L
.....F

said the nonbeliever,
crushing dreams,
breaking hopes

But why
not?
All
my life
I have
been
waiting,
hoping,
dreaming,
of the
day
that I
can take
wing and

............Y
.........L
.....F

said the bumblebee child,
who thinks wings
are made for flying

There are
laws,
that say
that you
must stay
always
on the
ground,
your
wings
cannot
help you
and you
can
never

............Y
.........L
.....F

said the bumblebee elder
whose dreams were crushed
long ago and now cannot
bear to see a child's dream

I will
always
try
to learn
to soar
to dream
to hope
to love
and
someday
somehow
I will
be
able
to

............Y
.........L
.....F

said the bumblebee girl
as she flapped her wings
in defiance
and as she flapped
and wished
and hoped
and dreamed
and loved
she suddenly
started
to

............Y
.........L
.....F

Author notes

7. "According to aerodynamic laws, the bumblebee cannot fly. It's body weight is not the right proportion to its wingspan. Ignoring these laws, the bee flies anyway" - M. Sainte Lague

Thanks for reminding me of this simple truth about the bumblebee! Doing "impossible" things is such satisfaction! I'll never get tired of the slack jaws and incredulous stares when I am riding a quadruplet bicycle with three other people--"There is no such thing!" Yes, there is! Brilliant poem, and to the point, and very creative way to put F-L-Y in front of us! [I see you have followed someone else's suggestion on that point, but you were wise to do that!] I wish I had written this myself!

Thanks so much-yeah, I can't take credit for the fly-that was Gagiikwe's idea and I am very grateful. Thanks for you wonderful comments!

"On the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia,
on the Trail of the Lonesome Pine,
    sat a hunchbacked bee
with a pimple on its knee
picking his teeth with a two by three -
unhuh, unhuh, unhuh" Old American folk music children's song.

Could you move "fly" outwards to the right, and have it go upwards one letter per line?
    ............Y
    .........L
    .....F
That would make it look like you were flying, not falling.

[The only ''law' a bumbee cannot ignore: "You only get to use your stinger once".]
