Legacy

When your says on earth are done
When you no longer see the rising and setting of the sun

Will your goals and dreams be fulfilled?
We fail to realize death is for real

(Okay OK...I'm not really a poet...so let me write this as I'm really feeling it)

What is your legacy?
If you were to die today
What would you be most remembered for?

Would it be the pain that you have felt or caused?
Would it be for the smiles you have put on so many faces?
Would it be your boldness to visit so many places?
Tell me your legacy
What would it be???

This has been pondering in my head for some time now
Because when I am gone...my legacy must live on
Tomorrow we celebrate the life of a King
Martin Luther King, Jr.
A man who was bold enough to risk his life for equality
He stood against racism and segregation
He fought to make this one great nation
But yet, years after his death his legacy is still left
For I have never seen this man face to face
All I know is what I have seen on video
And have read in books
And his legacy lives on

Then on Tuesday January 20, 2009
Barack Obama will be inaugurated as the first African American president
When he dies he will be remembered as such
But I hope and pray he will be remembered for much more
Not saying he will be the great black hope
But I do hope that he will stay committed to making changes in this country
And restore jobs, and destroy poverty

But when I am gone what will my legacy be?
I admit I have not lived a perfect life
But I hope to be remembered as one who really has a heart for people
One who really loves his family and will give his life for them
One who is a man of faith and stands firm in what he believes
One who has helped so many people who are in and coming out of prison
One who has help equip people for jobs
A man who has stood up for the rights of ex-offenders, helping them to obtain employment despite their criminal history
One who has mentored young men, and led them away from the streets and the life of drugs and crime

I want to be remembered as one who did not have much but gave alot
One who was not the best poet, but had a strong message
One who was not afraid to speak on controversial issues, such as gay marriages and abortion
One who encouraged men to be fathers to their children, and has helped those who did not have a father in their lives

I want to be remembered as one who has healed many of sickness and disease, such as cancer, HIV, etc.
One who has led many to the way of salvation which is through Jesus Christ


I guess what I am trying to say is that we ought to make each day count
If you do not have a vision or gaols, than what is it you work towards?
What are you striving for?
Each day is an opportunity
There are many of you who have goals and dreams, but are afraid to make an effort to reach them
Do not let your past failures keep you from moving forward
Get up and try again...and make each day count
Because you were put here on this earth for a purpose
And you cannot and will not die until your purpose is fulfilled

So stop running from destiny
If you want to go to college...than enroll...and allow God to lead you to financial aid
If you want to own a house...inquire about it...and let Him lead you to a loan
If you want to own a business...than do it...and ask God to show you how
But this year...make a decision not to allow your fears, your inexperience, your past, or even negative influences to discourage you from reaching for your goals...

Because whatever you put your mind to...or devote your energy to...you can do it...
Look how long you been addicted to drugs...it was only because you put your mind and energy into getting that drug of choice...
That's only an example...but search within yourself and see where you have devoted most of your time and energy...
And I guarantee if you redirect that energy...you will see Change...
