In the morning, while eating breakfast.
I pour myself a cup of sunlight to get me through the day;
With you by my side the world seems bright and beautiful.
But what is that I see in wavering in those bright points of light?
A question remains in your eyes, a waiting enterprise.
Our lips have done their part in giving each other grace,
but I recognize that shadowy thief.
He lurks in the corners of the world, and seeps into substance.
Yet, he is merely a ghost.
He is doubt, my love, but do not doubt all.
For he is a lonely companion; that abandons all in the end.
Echoes of truth wither to not, at last you are left with nothing, for though he gives powerful tools.
To pierce mysteries veiled in this universe, it is a dangerous gift, alas, swift as a blade it will cut to pieces all we know, and obliterate the self.
In time it destroys even itself.
Truth remains the bedrock in shifting sands of thought;
do not cut down the foundation of all things.
Because in the end, doubt.
You must doubt yourself, and see
the substance of all the world in all its wonderous glory!!
Tell me if you agree approximately with these sentiments or if the meaning was to vague to grasp?

I think that this piece was very well written. When poets personify unusual characters, such as doubt, or fear, or any emotion, I think it shows the depth of their creativity and adds a profound potency into their pieces. I also really loved the last three lines. They strongly reminded me of the last few lines of one of my favorite pieces, John Donne's 'Death be not Proud',
'And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.'
I think the sentiments in this piece greatly mirrored what John Donne had to say about death. I am grateful that you prized my opinion on this piece. I find it to be very well written and yet quite tender and optimistic.
affectionately,
Carrie
