"Lemon Tree, very pretty,
and the flower is oh so sweet;
but the fruit of the poor lemon
is impossible to eat..."
I just keep singing that '60s
song to myself when times
are bad and I feel down - gotta
accept the bad with the good.
What else am I to tell 'ya?
It's the story of my life:
everything looks lovely, but
turns out bitter in the end.
Can't do anything about it;
just keep on plugging along
until I find someone who knows
how to make lemonade from lemons,
Or at least likes lemon trees.

I can remember the song (I'm sorry to say I hated it, but it does stay in the memory). There is something I do like, however, in this poem - sure there's cynicism and resignation, and that wonderful throw-away line at the end, but it's done with such a light touch.

Wow, this is a really interesting poem.
I like the idea that you're getting across and the quote at the beginning, it's a great way to start a poem.
Curious use of language, I mean I like it but it isn't familiar to me really.
Like the structure and I think that all round this is a pretty reasonable poem.
Could definitely relate emotionally which is a bonus = ]
Keep up the excellent writing!

An interesting entry... but since you begin with a quotation from a song (Not one, incidentally, that I can recall having heard in the 1960s - but no matter!), I feel it would have been more appropriate if your verses had followed the rhyme-scheme of the said quotation. And PLEASE - since the bulk of your poem is in "received standard" , I find the occasional US demotic ("ya", "gotta" a little off-key!)
ADDED LATER...
(I could not finish critiquing this at the time, as I began to feel too ill to concentrate...
However, I feel I must congratulate you on the "throwaway" last line...
It gives a really splendid twist to the whole thing. -

Well, Vera,
we all have preconcieved notions of what things should be, like poetry, good literature, 'wild' nature...and the same with people; say for instance, there's a homeless man on the corner of a downtown city street, by himself - one person looks at him and judges him to be a 'bum,' another person thinks the man to just be down on his luck and his future is still ahead of him to change for the better so he gives the man a Walmart gift certificate and tries to cheer him, and yet another person sees the man and recognizes him to be his neighbor who lost his home 4 months ago in the economic crisis and he had no where else to go...
the point of this little parable is that yeah, things are what you make of them, but often there's more than meets the eye - there's a message.

I liked this
. This perspective on life is not one uncommon. Life truly is bitter sweet. You have to to take the good and the bad... But just keep rolling with the punches.
