In our world and the young people of today,
hear my words for your life I so pray.
That you will listen and be safe from disease,
for once you get it, it will never leave.
Keep your wits about you, no drugs no booze.
For to get stoned or drunk baby you lose
Times are tough and the journey riddled with pain,
if you ignore safety your life will be restrained.
For those who ignored the warning I feel your fear,
I know it's too late to change things now my dear.
But you are not exempt from love if you practice safe sex,
and know you can still enjoy life with the life you have left.
I know of children, teens and adults alike,
some pass on the disease they care not this night.
But often they don't know it the day it was received,
and now it's up to you to keep others safe 'you see.
Some people have gotten it through blood transfusions unknown,
and they in turn brought their disease home.
Tears fall for so many don't understand,
that it is a disease that can be passed on so take a stand.
Get away from the drugs and the alcohol today,
save yourself and learn the way.
To live and be free without worry and fear,
of getting a disease that kills year after year.
My heart goes out to those infected today,
for the drugs are so expensive many 'afford them they say.
Time wont stand still but you can take the lead,
and protect yourselves with safe sex don't you see.

It doesnt take a wizard to figure it out only common sense to be safe and proud . Love one another but never let drugs take the lead for in doing so you will catch HIV

Its really good Patty, and also so very true. People and especially young people really dont think about the consequences of what they are doing. HIV among other sexually transmitted diseases ruin the lives of so many people every year when it could have been avoided bye staying sober and clean or in some cases justnot having sex. Its sadly disturbing. The poem is well written although for some reason the flow seems off just a little. Other than that there is nothing I canreally say about it. You did a great job. Good luck in the contest.

You know I wonder how in todays world we can expect our kids to refrain from anyone sex when we, the very teachers have become so loose. When TV glorifies sex & groups say .. It is your body to do as you wish with. But again wise words.
