Pride of storied railroad, best.
Tall bridge across Ohio River;
Brown waters around piers shiver.
Strong signal green by NK Tower:
Lasting beacon, sheltering bower.
Happiness--to be on time:
Love, at home, just like a rhyme.
Author notes
The Southern Railway had a habit of naming regularly-scheduled trains "Special"--a contradiction in terms: Birmingham Special, Carolina Special, Aiken-Augusta Special, etc. And I have always loved the sight of a lone green railroad signal in the dark. I picked up "Memphis" from the name of a streamlined, round-end observation car in a Z-scale train set that I bought. An interlocking tower, staffed by an operator, is a sort of sentinel outpost that controls track switches and signals; North Kolmont, also known as Gould, is in eastern Ohio.

"Brown waters around piers shiver"
wonderful line! I like this one. It feels like the end of a journey, which is confirmed by the last line. The end is very clever, without being cheesy.

Thanks! "Shiver" was one of the more difficult rhymes.
