Ocean, Sky, Tide (My Lover and I)

"But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls."
- Kahlil Gibran

I know my lover
and my lover, oh, may know much of me
but never will we delve the depths
and understand all that is between
the place where I rest, in strength
and sorrow and longing's flight
or where she sits, piercing the future
with the hopes that we hide.

My lover is a castle-cloud
and I the bird upon the highest towers
seeking out the glorious view
of things not yet found,
  in the lightning
    and the thunder
and the spilling of the sun
  as I, a mortal man,
am carried out upon the wind.

So we flow in and out,
  my lover and I
    always seeking, always growing
no matter what the flows of tide.
