As Deathlycold sweat dripped from my brow,
A fair maiden stared at me, from the entrance to my chambers,
Dark liquored eyes glistened, as she smiled crimson red
No words escaped me as I tried to speak
She held her hand towards me, unwillingly I grasped it
In the blink of an eye, we stood before a great circle
Of Hell-Fire and Divine Light
Enchanting music linguered in the air
Fear gripped me hard as I walked through the flames
The maiden no longer fair,
But now, Death Incarnate
She turned to me, Her smile no longer crimson,
But as black as the unholy night
"Welcome to my Dance Emperor, for all must come"
She whispered with demonic glee, as I stared ahead,
Nobles and peasants, soliders and churchmen,
Danced the Dance of Death!
I begged her to let me go,
I offered her land and wealth,
Power and nobility,
But she raised her hand to silence me
"Your sword and crown are of no worth here,
All must come, all must dance" was her reply.
As if in a trance,
I, too, began to dance,
For now and eternity,
Death will wait for no one...
So I leave you now,
Do not put faith in wealth,
For it is of no worth here,
For all must come to Her dance...
Author notes
This is based on the French late-Medieval allegory "Danse Macabre" (Dance of Death), in which it siginfies in Death, all are equal.
Iron Maiden and Cradle of Filth were influences on my writing of this song, amongst other things including a local graveyard that makes me feel uneasy at night as well as some of my friend Zombie-Vomit's dark poetry.
I used the Slavic Pagan idea of Death been female so that the Emperor in the song is more accepting of Death (Although he does know it is Death) been in his bed chambers.
I may have possibly spelt one or two things wrong in this song as well.
Also, for the record, I do not intend for this to be anything like the Iron maiden song: Dance of Death, even though I was listening to that when I first began writing this.

simply amazing
I really liked the imagery in this piece, and it's quite moving. I noticed that you said that this was writting as a song, and I'd love to hear the music put behind it sometime lol.

Excellent
I really liked this. It pulled me in and led me along. I could see the scene in my mind based on the well crafted wording. It was good enough that I would have liked it to have been longer!

Thank you

I wanted to make it longer as well, cause my original idea was to have a verse where the Emperor tries to escape, but I was trying to avoid writing this too much like Iron Maiden's Dance of Death, where the character actually escapes from the dance
An once again, thank you for your kind comment

Oh, I inspired you!~
I really like this, somehow it reminds me of a succubus coming into the man's room or something...

Yeah, you inspired me in the good sense ^^
An the succubus idea was sorta was I was trying to go with using the Slavic Pagan idea of Death been a female personification,
I actually like the shortness of this as well, it's a welcome change from a chorus lol
