Scribbling on a piece of paper
“Love den this way”
They all described it as adorable
And I never really saw what they meant
Sticking the paper up on the wall
And going and fetching another piece
I kept myself well and truly amused
You never noticed the work I’d gone to
Girls’ daddies don’t let boys in their daughters’ rooms
For the simple reason
They don’t want their daughter turning round
And stating, “I’m pregnant”
But you, you were different
And I was different
We were merely 8
And even just a little kiss was a naughty thing
Do you remember the massive
Cuddly toy fight
We had?
I laughed so much that day
And out of all the fabulous memories
We created together
At such a young innocent age
My strongest memory is just one: that being you.
Author notes

Indeed. How simple!
Makes me yearn for those days...
So much I missed, so much I miss.
This was a great write.
I loved the last line... very powerful.
Thank You.
