Fall

Do you notice the fluctuations
Of haphazard physiological responses
Which leave me on edge
Too frightened to run
And perhaps excessively foolish?

A stalemate which isn’t
Meant to be mistaken for stubbornness
Or something as admirable as determination

But is nothing more than rigidness
That serves as a makeshift brace
Until I buckle completely under the weight

I think so many people could relate to this poem in so many ways. Love the last verse.

Sounds more like fear to me. Or at least some measure of it. When those act in a way that we fear to react. Maybe because when ever we do, we get the backlash or maybe it's even darker and more sinister than that.

I also see that whatever it is...it's simply too much, so I think of depression of a sorts, unable to cope with the anxiety.

    • I think you encompassed it all. It was written with the feelings I was going through: being afraid of someone's temper-
Afraid to comment on various things or voice an opinion when I felt wronged due to their possible negative reaction or as you had worded it, their backlash. It is amazing how when you love someone all the things the two inviduals sometimes go through until one or both people end up metaphorically buckling.

  • Beautiful word usage. I enjoyed this.

  • I found this really deep and meaningful. It's the kind of poem that makes me stop and say YES this poet is a deep thinker and I enjoyed that. Excellent write.
