Static Dreams in Digital Reception

Static dreams in digital reception.

Unbaptised thoughts forever lost in ignorance.

Conform to the line and dance to the cadence.

Trapped in cocoon leaving butterflies inside.

Suck it up and swallow your pride.

Skeletal remains in the closets of the mind.

Clairvoyant predictions that left me blind.

Static dreams in digital reception.

Told what to like and I like what I'm told.

Given a choice and I choose to be sold.

Lazy I left it all to chance.

Married the notion and took no stance.

Life left me behind like an ex-wife.

Took half of my shit and ruined my life.

Static dreams in digital reception.

Lust is technicolor. Reality black and white.

Confusing conclusions darker than night.

Like grandmas rallying against technology.

No more broadcast of Oprah for free.

Building sand castles while the tide is high.

The waves are a bully and now I cry.

Transparencies like connect the dots.

Guess a cheetah always keeps its spots.

Static dreams in digital reception.

  • Very nice work. A good look at all the blah Americans see everyday behind their Television screens. As you've illustrated here, there are so many people who have more of a relationship with their televisions, that's where they get their dose of the outside world, but are rarely out to experience it themselves, thus their intelligence is docked.

Sorry if my interpretation is incorrect, that is just what I got from this poem.

    Good

"Lazy I left it all to chance."

This reminded me of flipping through channels. I took it to heart that you were describing sudden thoughts in boredom. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy (Edgar Bergen).

  • "Clairvoyant predictions that left me blind...

Lust is technicolor. Reality black and white.
    Confusing conclusions darker than night."

most all of these was impressive but those lines just really stood out to me. look forward to reading more of your works.

    Lust IS technicolor.

This is great, a combination of dry humor and rant, very good job with this.

P.S. I didn't get a cookie, did you? Best wishes in the contest.

The options seem to smilingly taunt,
to dare the reader not to be merely a receiver.
Intelligent rants roll down the page
    requiring more than a glance,
    a re-read a second chance
to stay in the reader's mind.

    Great!!

    Dude!

Now that's what I'm talking about! I love how it's extremely hilarious but also very intelligent and adult! Honestly,I was thinking I'd get a lot more silly stupid crap in this contest...I like that kind too though but yours is just incredible! Freaking brilliant and it's got a message in it too! I love when poetry isn't just written in some typical ode to nature {I love nature but there are many subjects I find more intteresting} Also I just LOVE how you made it dark humor! I'm sure most people might see my references to Monty Python and Jackass as that I'm looking for pure sillyness and nonsensical comedy but I actually was refering to ANY kind of humor and I especially love the darker kind that also comes with a message! It's kinda like the note inside a fortune cookie 'cause some people might complain,"Hey there's a note in my food!" while others bother to read it and see that it comes with wisdom and a nice little butt-kissing,hope-inspiring,motivating compliment!Who doesn't love those?Hahahahaha yeah I totally loved this Jason!Well done!If you've never seen the movie Imaginary Heroes {With Sigourney Weaver} then I highly suggest you do!It's loaded with dark humor, irony, and sarcasm so I think you will love it!Thanks for entering my contest....both times hahaha!YAY!You and Maxboy are the only ones so far to take advantage of being able to up your odds of winning by entering twice!Smart men you two are!OH crap I gotta quit before I just keep sounding Dumb & Dumber haha!I had thought I was on the verge of talking like Yoda from Star Wars!Mmmmmmm, smart men indeed you are!I'd give you 3 Trillion applause if I could!5 stars....and a cookie if you want it!No pat on the head though. That is just ridiculous!Lmfao

Sort of a requiem for a life/lives. Like most of us, we are an amalgam of contradictions...sometimes tough, sometimes weak, smart, dumb, hero, betrayer, etc. That is how this reads to me. Though it's intended as a portrait of opposites, I see those opposites not only in society but in the individual...wise and gullible at times, with all those complicated notions. Few of us never sell out at some point.

Reads like snippets of experiments in word usage and imagery. If that's what you meant you did well.

There are a lot of phrases I like for their uniqueness. The only one I wonder about is,

"Married the notion and took no stance."

Seems like I've read that somewhere else. I don't know where but it seems real familiar. Incidental, I'm sure.

      thanks for reading

I had my focus based on choices that we are given by society: how some like to conform, while others maintain a certain level of angst and rebeliousness. As for "Married the notion and took no stance", it refers to someone just taking what is allotted whithout question, and how that can turn around and bite them. I've never heard the line before and wouldn't use it if I thought it unoriginal. I do strive on originality.
