A word to the best of me.

So sudden I feel faint and fading begins.
I'm not the one that you want;
I'll only bring you down.
I'm becoming sure that you caught on.
You had me with the tender voice,
The echoes I can't replace, so smooth.

You have taken me in by surprise;
Through love and now these sunken eyes,
Kept me close and whispered newfound lies.
My head is full of words as my heart once was
As you whispered
"How long can you really hold on to a word?"
I'm not the one that you want,
I'll always let you down...

I wake with a passion and fall with confusion.
My one and true deceived me
Now I crumble here and lay to rest.
One hand high above my chest;
And I felt it sink... "just a word"
Playing over and over.

The blood will warm me
While I wait for what I feel,
To finally overcome.
Pages torn,
A sharp blade through my heart.
You've taken the best of me.

Take what you want and leave,
You had the best of me.
I'll rot to ash far from where I wanted you;
I'm just feeling sorry for myself.
If I had the chance to go back,
To the perfect storybook.
A moment wouldn't pass without chance
Truth being I can't be near your love,
Fear of my heart beating I still need you.

No matter what you've done.

    I'll admit I was a little uncertain in the begining of this but then towards the end I was completely captivated by the sadness.

    nicely done

    "I'll rot to ash far from where I wanted you;"
    That is a brilliant line and really caught my attention.

    Your last stanza was the most poignant and powerful, your last line perfectly fitting

    Thank you for entering my contest and good luck
