forever and a day ago
we fell to sleep entwined,
thoughts and emotions mingling,
side by side, silence occasionally ruffled
with simple sighs.
only moments before eyelashes fell
my throat constricted and every meaningful word
building up in my mind
lost sight and inside hiding
could not find escape,
only tears came to occupy the emptiness
and in such intense seconds
you understood,
everything surfaced but did not break through,
we fell to sleep inclined to thinking
it was our last chance at ever speaking,
but all we did was sigh.
