Happy Birthday King Hugh

A birthday is a day among the rest
when friends all fuss and tell you you're the best,
a prince among the people whom we know,
the one who shows the wisest way to go.

This year is tough for you, another year
of troubles and infirmity; it's clear
that this is not concluded even yet,
but its improvement is a certain bet.

With smiles and hugs, we wish for happy days
to come again, and meanwhile give you praise.
For you dear Hugh, affection is a river
which blesses both recipient and giver.

Author notes

Happy birthday January 13. Many hugs and blessings. M

    What a delightful birthday poemie!

    I giggled and I am sure Hugh did too!

    Let us all be hit by this wondrous Frisbee 2009 -- not duck to avoid it, but stretch to embrace it! And wow ... NOW IT IS UPON US!

    Happy Birthday, Hugh.

    Love to you two,
    Myra

    GREAT Margaret!!!

    I was wondering why that frisbee was getting bigger too then finally I caught the drift. Powerful and sincere sentiment. Affection that "blesses both recipient and giver" touched my heart deeply. Sometimes I read something and I think... that's really good and others I think WOW. I'm having a WOW moment!!!

    Dear, dear Margaret,

    My apologies for commenting so late
    but visiting hours, from ten am till eight,
    use up most of every day and I can’t just rush away
    to comment, write or play, which has to wait.

    The early mornings are the only time
    I can devote to reading faves’ new rhyme
    but, by the time I’ve bathed, dressed, breakfasted, (and shaved,)
    logging in to my computer seems a crime.

    I am conscious that I owe a heap of thanks
    to so many of the Huguenauties’ ranks
    for the wishes they’ve expressed, of which yours is quite the best
    and I hope I am forgiven for my blanks.

    Now that Edna’s showing signs of getting well
    after several weeks of veritable hell,
    perhaps my deadened brain will start functioning again
    and my Muse return to guide me for a spell.

    Margaret, for your poem, thankyou very much -
    as always, you know just the words that touch.
    The affection you’ve expressed is returned with interest
    and your wishes I reciprocate as such.

    ~~~
    With applause, much love, many hugs and a flood of post-birthday XXX’s
    to my Sonnet Queen, from your 77-year-old fan, Hugh (R.)
      Dear Hugh
      If this is how you write without a Muse,
      I'll send mine off to you, to give her clues!!
      Although we know you're very pressed for time,
      you scrupulously pen your thanks in rhyme.
      I'm very happy you enjoyed my verse,
      and hope you'll soon have more time to converse.
      Many blessings for your anniversary, I hope this is a great year for you.
    A wonderful Birthday poem for our dear King.
    Thank you Sweetpea for writing one for him, he's been so down lately, but now he's coming back to the Hugh we know and love.
      Thanks Joan! I'm glad that Hugh is getting back to normal. It will be better, I hope, when Edna comes home again.
