wintersong....my tribute to granpappy

Missing image
wintersong…my tribute to granpappy

neath the bluegray sky
lies the poetry of life

the song of a bird
slow meandering of a caterpillar
the croak of a frog
a bent twig hanging, lifeless

mornings’ foggy mist
becomes a reverie
of times gone by
or a promise
for the new day
of things to come
which lie in hiding
waiting for the sun

memories become
works of art
words, subtle or screaming
days and nights run together
forming what was
what can’t be changed
no matter how
terrible or wonderful

a childs tears of pain
begging for the comfort
which she has never known
becoming the product
of that abuse
and all it’s consequences
little could she know
she was poetry in the making

a flower, a mountain
an old hound dog
dust, rain, wind and snow
the woodpile, aching back
the aroma of dinner cooking
or loves’ sweet perfume

a young boy
growing up in Oklahoma
ice cream and love
heartaches and soul searching
night sticks and alfalfa
milk and cookies
spitin' and whittlin’
tarzan on the screen
ma and pa

drugs and lovers
good times and bad
all part of the poetry of life
each day flowing, one to the other
each day a world in itself
rivers of the mind
flowing endlessly
everything’s a story
life is but an unending poem

he lives life to the fullest
been through it all
setting life to poetry
poetry to life
each stanza a portrait
in my gallery

forever in my heart
wintersong .... poetry of life

Author notes

what the heck ...I can't help it if you effect me like that..wish I could express it better, though....but you get the idea
Hmmm... for some odd reason, his name on his comment here has changed to 'unknown user' and has done so on all his comments on my poetry.  Unknown User is another poet on here but a more recent member.  The first comment from that name is actually wintersong (when he was known as 'granpappy') but a more recent one on this piece is actually from the poet, 'Unknown User'...curious thing.....

    A poetic painting.

    Dear Dee,
I have only just caught up with this, having written my own tribute to WINTERSONG recently. This gives much more detail than I was able to do within the restraints of acrostic and I have to say how beautifully you have encapsulated some of the scenes Jim paints in his own poems. Late though I am I hope my applause will still be heard across the mountains and the mist.
    Love and Hugs, XXX Hugh.

    don't touch it!

the message was reciieved with love, sent with love, the music sang with the love of your heart. You ask how old my daughter was, she is 25 but no way to get to a computer, she asked me to post on my sight, she has only writtern one more poem and it took her about 6 years for this one to appear, she has talent, she just not sure about writing ability. She wanted feedback so she could develop more. So far only two people.

Catz.......meow! Not only is this a grand tribute and most deserving this man he is, you
honor him with such lovely verse. Tis a far journey from wherest I first met you and ate of your
sweet bread, now from this table you serve me well, a poet's treat of growth and maturity of your work.

I am savoring this read, since I admitedly confess I have been remiss to visit your work and here now I am
offering a bowed head in recognition of achievement with poetry that lives as does the life that finds its way
into your hands and pen. -Darmok

Thanks, all of you. Lol.. I figured if I put 'granpappy' in the title it would get some atttention. Lee, you crack me up... true, he's a pretty sexy guy...maybe if we both weren't already taken... hmmm.... but I do love his poetry. He makes every facet of life a poem, a story, imagined or real. I think most everyone on here would agree.

thanks, Jim, I'm relieved that you approve. Writing poetry to someone as talented and expressive as you are was an act of love and friendship....and appreciation, though rather amaturish compared to your writings. I just felt like doing it, though...hugs

Thanks, Jenn. Sure, that's okay, hon. I know how much you care about him, too.
