The boy solemnly eyed the rich brown ovum
The vessel silenty watched back
Angry disturbances collide in the murk of the past
But the grass was soft, comforting and cool to bruised skin
They surveyed the world about them, the boy and his silent companion
The dappled sunlight racing through the ovum's old cradle now broken as the boy
They stared at each other with a sense of peace
This was the boy's end, the ovum's beginning
For the ovum to become the boy's constant companion
For the boy to be free of his pain of his 6 short years
The acorn understood the pain filled eyes
As the boy let the last tear mingled with his breath fall
The years passed, misery forgotten
But the acorn...had understood
It would be the constant guardian of bark and glistening leaf
Protector of the child's grave in the days of summer
When the boy fell from his parents limbs
To at last have
A Friend

I loved this, it makes me think of beginnings springing from endings, to leave loneliness behind in finding a friend. Beautiful.

This was short and bittersweet, and I thought this was wonderfully written. I liked the structure and the imagery, and the repetition of the empty stares. Excellent work and good luck in my contest.

Thank you for your entry
I love the way that you ended this, with the request for friendship. It is heartfelt and the piece reads so well, very smoothly
