Bounty Paid

The Dentist door swung eerily open

before I even had the chance

to place my sweating palms

upon the dusted handle......

damn... why did I come alone.

"Turn around, turn around,

leave and go home..."

whispered the echoed pleas

quivering my soul.

Ghouls of nurses slowly surround,

trapped, strapped, no way out.

He entered the room

with a sly grimace upon his face.....

"Welcome, dear child,"

holding up x-rays

salivating wickedly,

"I see you have a mighty gift for me,

the teeth of wisdom young mortal

is my treasure, bounty and relief."

Too frightened to speak,

I dig my nails into the chair

hoping today will not be

the last breath I take.......

A mask is firmly placed

upon my shivering face.

Fading slowly, eyes heavy,

heavier, closed, no escape.

I hear his mocking whisper,

"...breathe...breathe....

release your flesh unto me."

and fight as I might...I....obediently obeyed.

Awoken by the soothing sound

of familiar comfort,

my mothers kiss assures me

I am safe, sound, and home.

Here I lay, his bounty paid,

ice-cream, jello, soup

hungering and wondering....

Was he truly real or my unspoken fears

tormented and released.

Contest prompt: Wisdom Teeth Blues...for another poetess.

Dear poetess:
A good dark lovely story always gets my mind off what is disturbing me.
I hope you had a good laugh...and...chew softly upon me for entering it.
Thank goodness we only get our wisdom teeth pulled out once in our lifetimes.
Not to worry, it does get better...and Ibuprofen is a real help!

I hope you enjoyed it!

I lol'd. Thanks this was a lot of fun.

  • Wow, that's two other people with the same dentist as me! Evil creatures, aren't they!

Dentists have terrified me since I was little, and I will never set foot back in one's office for as long as I live. I think I'd sooner sever my head with dental-floss

This is amazing, sis. Only you would think up something so absurdly-brilliant as this Well done & good luck!

I see you have the same dentist I do...if only he would comb his hair once in a while.

Fear of dentists is one of those things that carry over from childhood to adult hood. I have often wondered if one dentist is afraid when he has to go another dentist to get his teeth worked on...I bet he is...

Do dragons go to the dentist? That should be a real scorcher...and why do they call them wisdom teeth? I'm just as dumb now as I was before they protruded.

Thanks for writing this so late at night, now I'm afraid to go to bed, I might dream of him. Is my dentist really supposed to use a pipe wrench to pull my teeth with? Just wondering...

Good write, honey. Now for a bowl of ice cream and off to bed!
