#1 - Halfway Home

As long as I remember
people have always said
home is where the heart is
and I have always thought,
what a load of crap.

Home is a place where you have
four walls around you,
a tv in the living room,
dinner on the table at 5pm
and a bed to sleep in at night.

But then I met you,
and I discovered I didn't need
walls, tv, food or a bed.
As long as I had you
I would be fine.

So my definition of home changed.
Now home was where I felt
safe and warm and loved,
where I knew I would gladly stay forever.
You took my heart and with it
you made yourself my home.

And now your so many miles away,
but as long as I know
that I love you and you love me
I will always be at least halfway home.

this is very thoughtful and profound, everyone needs a home like this, good luck in the contest.

  • this was so simple but so meaningful.
I just made a big move and i'm in that sort of transition stage where no where really feels like home anymore. Where you once found comfort and safety, now feels foreign. When i visit my home town, it looks the same but the feeling has completely changed..i guess that is my halfway home.

I loved this poem. very beautiful! thanks for writing!

eventually, things will fall into place, effortlessly.
